Once-Weekly Insulin Shot for Adults with Type 2 Diabetes

Awiqli (insulin icodec / insulin icodec-abae) — once-weekly basal insulin

The first labelled once-weekly basal insulin. The United States (FDA, 26 Mar 2026) labels it only for adults with type 2 diabetes as an adjunct to diet and exercise for glycemic control. Health Canada (NOC 12 Mar 2024), the European Union (MA 17 May 2024), Switzerland (7 Mar 2024), Australia, and Japan label diabetes mellitus in adults — a broader line that includes type 1 with hypoglycemia caveats on those SmPCs / monographs. China’s NMPA line is type 2 only.
